Aren’t you getting tired of going to the mall every weekend?

Doesn’t it make you feel sick having to think about going to another party this coming Friday?

Don’t you feel bored seeing the same sights, going to the same places, and eating at the same restaurants all the time?

Well, I am. Don’t get me wrong; the bustling city life is wonderful – to top it off, it is also very convenient. There is clearly nothing wrong with living the high life. There are days when it feels a little too much, though. There are times when the atmosphere feels more suffocating than it is amazing. Sooner or later, a certain amount discontentment fills the heart of people fed up with the urban life. This is because deep inside, we all long to go back to where we belong; back to the place that has sheltered us for so long – Mother Nature.

Sometimes, the city we call home wouldn’t feel like home; that is completely normal. Our world may be masked with the façade of urbanization but at our very core, we are nature-loving creatures. And no matter what happens, we will always yearn to go back to it (Check out: https://www.mindful.org/do-we-really-need-nature/). No matter where, no matter when, we will always crave the sound of the woods at the night, the gushing water of playful rivers, and the majestic view of lusciously green mountain ranges. To go back to nature is to go back to humanity’s original home – and nothing feels more right than coming back to it after being apart for so long.

Am I telling you to move back into the deep forest and live with flora and fauna? Heck, no. You’re not Snow White and you’re definitely not someone who’d love the naturalistic lifestyle. What I’m saying is, even if it’s just for a little while, pay nature a visit. Compared to the fast-paced life in the city, nature trips allow you to breathe. They make you feel aligned with your inner self again.

So here’s an idea: On your next day off, why not take the gang or the family to a nearby lake?

Lakes are nice, calm, and peaceful. It’s a great place to unwind and relax. It would also be a treat for children, if you’re bringing them along! If this idea piques your interest, I can suggest a couple of activities for you to do. Enjoy!

Picnic-o-Fantastic!

Nature and picnics go together just like how peanut butter goes perfectly with jelly (btw, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches are a must-treat for children on picnic day!). Imagine yourself sitting on that classic, red and white checkered blanket, neatly placed atop the soft grass overlooking the majestic view of the calm yet deep lake that seems to be undisturbed by your family’s rowdy presence. Check out all the coolest picnic spots on this site.

Picnics are perfect for family outings because they feel cozy and intimate. Everyone sits together, laughs together, and chats for hours without a care in the world. If a nearby park with a nice lake or nature reserve allows outdoor picnics near the lake area, then you better start planning. Please mind your trash, though! We’ve done enough damage to Mother Nature thus far.

Who’s Up For A Night With The Stars?

Stargazing is best done in places that have little to no pollution. This means that stargazing in the city, with all those greenhouse gases floating up top, is incomparable to the awe-inspiring views you can get from virgin forests, tall mountain tops, and – wouldn’t you guess – wide open lakes.

The calm of the lake and the silence of the night sky is enough to validate that natural beauty is still present in this world. If you take the family out for a nice evening stroll and bring your sky-viewing apparatuses with you on your trip, you may get the chance to witness the hidden wonders of the universe. The vast sky, a million stars, and even thousands of galaxies can be within your vision’s reach. I’m pretty sure the kids will enjoy trying to spot UFO’s as well!

Camping? Count Me In!

Who here liked to collect campers’ badges when they were young? I’m pretty sure I was excited about it during my time! I wore them as if they were the symbols of my pride as a scout. As an adult, camping just gets better. So why not round up the gang for a couple of nights sleeping with the lake’s breeze on your feet?

Pitching tents, grilling barbecues, and roasting marshmallows atop bonfires to make gooey s’mores, I tell you nothing in the world will feel better. Escape the city’s pressure, take a break from your boss’s temper, and take in the wonders of nature. In a couple days’ time, you’ll feel rejuvenated! Just remember not to pack all your cooking pans though!

Who Knew Lakes Can Be So Romantic?

Reservations at expensive restaurants to celebrate anniversaries are so old school. You’ve probably done it a gazillion times already. Flowers, chocolates, teddy bears and whatnot; they’re all so overused that your partner will hardly appreciate the gesture anymore. For a change, how about you take your romantic pursuits to the next level?

Set up a candlelit dinner at a lakeside park (if allowed, of course!). Bring a violinist, a bottle of good champagne – or both! Your other half will definitely love it! This is a perfect idea for popping the big question as well. Pray that Mother Nature will grant you her blessing so that everything goes well!

Tea Parties Are So Underrated!

Who said Alice was the only one invited to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party?

You can always organize your own posh tea party complete with Danish biscuits (see buttery recipe!) and fruit tarts and invite your favorite friends over for a cup! You can even make the day extra special by taking the party to the great outdoors; setting up a perfectly chic table on the soft terrain overlooking a lovely lake.
